Community members have an opportunity to comment on revised guidelines for mobile food vans in Yarra.
At its meeting on Tuesday, Council agreed to undertake a fresh round of consultation on adjusted guidelines.
Some of the changes include allowing mobile food vans to operate in approved residential zones on a trial basis and permitting multiple vehicles to be registered under one permit (but with only one operating at a time).
The move to make further changes and seek community input followed criticism from some existing mobile food van operators that the first iteration of Yarra’s guidelines, which came into effect on 1 July 2012, were too restrictive.
Three mobile food van businesses have received permits from Council under the existing guidelines.

Members of the public will have 28 days to comment on the new version of the guidelines, which can be found on this page along with details on how to make a submission.
Council will consider the submissions it receives before deciding at a public meeting, most likely in mid-2013, whether it will endorse the proposed rule changes or stick with the current version of the guidelines.
